Sure you can find Italian music around Melbourne cafes, clubs and music venues... but, what about REAL ITALIAN JAZZ MUSIC?

Radiosuccessi, established in June 2014, is the only truly Italian jazz band in Melbourne, able to deliver “CERTIFIED GENUINE ITALIAN SWING”! And you'd rather be aware of imitations!

Are you intrigued? Oh well, of course you are! Reviving the true sounds of Italy and leaving behind the cheesy copies of Italian songs made famous by American singers, this band plays music direct from Italy’s heart.
With its distinctly modern jazz sensibility, Radiosuccessi can combine traditional jazz standards, modern groove with the Italian numbers. The repertoire includes some of the great Italian songs, written by the most famous songwriters, like Bruno Martino (Estate, Fai Male, Forse), Domenico Modugno (Amara terra), Lelio Luttazzi (Mi piace, Bum Ahi, che colpo di luna, Senza cerini), Fred Bongusto (Me so’ ‘mbriacato ‘e sole, Se tu non fossi bella come sei), as well as some unexpected gems made famous by Italian Divas such as Mina, Jula de Palma, Sofia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida.
Included are also some great American successes that became popular in Italy in the Fifties thanks to their translation into Italian. After WWII, only a minimum percentage of people could understand English, so, many professional lyricists provided Italian translations for those hits. Claudio Villa brought to success the well-known song “Quando ti stringi a me” that originally was a Broadway song called “I am in the mood for love”. Moreover “Almost like being in love” became “Così mi innamorai”, a great success by Caterina Valente and the amazing Charlie Chaplin’s tune “Smile” translated into “Se mai..”.

“Radiosuccessi” is a dive into the Italian culture and society, and through some wonderful songs you can live again and feel the atmosphere of Via Veneto in Rome, riding a Lambretta, or having a gelati in Piazza San Marco in Venice.

Radiosuccessi was an idea of the late Italian drummer CARLO ALBERTO CANEVALI. We miss you dearly, Carlo.
